Dad looking at his tomato garden , he spends a lot of his time here every day, he may even sneak in a little nap here.
.
The best and most beautiful things of this world can't be seen or touched. They must be felt by the heart. Treat others as you would like to be treated.

From eBay to Website: A Tomato Growing Business
.

By Vanessa Richins

.
Their business began because of a friendly competition.
Alainia Hagerty-Williams, who grew up on a 300 acre farm, was challenged by her father to see who could grow the best tomatoes. T
he first year she chose to grow one variety. The next year, she tried 10 different heirloom varieties.
In her third year, she was the victim of successful germination, ending up with too many tomato plants for her own garden in Munford, Tennessee. She decided to put her excess bounty up for sale on eBay.

Come on in the coffee and tea is ready and I have a cup in my hand and a smile on my face, sit down and I will pour you a cup. When you drink that you will be a little more able to face this cold, cruel world.

I hope that the eagles had a good night, we will have too wait for daylight to come before we can tell. But we can be ready to go up there. This http://www.wvec.com/cams/eagle.html will give you a free ride right up to their nest.

Here is my thought for today.

" Remember now thy creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them."

This is from the Ecclesiastes, chapter 12 and verse 1.

We did have a wonderful day testerday, as I already told you Jim and Beverly came down for the day and my sweet granddaughter Beth, was with them. We had a lot of fun talking , eating and taking pictures. It was all over too soon.

Late yesterday I did get to sit down at the garden for a while and enjoyed the birds singing and just looking at those tomatoes. Before I left I watered the tomatoes.

I've learned that keeping a Tomato garden is worth a medicine cabinet full of pills.

Please look over in the side panel at our visitors list, there are two, one for countries and one for cities, it is becoming interesting to me. So many people all over this world are taking their precious time to read what this old man has to say about tomatoes and a few other things. It hunbles me. Thank to all of you. DAD.

I must stop and visit the coffee pot one more time, and then I am going to get too work. I hope to be able to see you again in the morning, you know what I like for you to do. SMILE.

ENTRY # SEVNTEEN HUNDRED & NINETEEN.

This is our precious new little cousin, Hayley, She and her Dad and Mom, Jim and Marla, were with us in our meeting Sunday morning. What a treat for us. We are so proud of her.
.
Good Morning,

Time is so precious-do not waste it.

The sun never sets on Dad's Tomato Garden Journal.

The weather might be a good subject to start with on this Monday morning, Yesterday, Sunday, the day started with a temperature of 61 and the high for the day was 85. And real bright sunshine all the day. Now that is what Dad calls real tomato growing weather. Get your mayonnaise and buns ready.

Now here the temperature is 68 this morning at 3 a.m. , and we expect a high of 80 today, with still a lot of sunshine promised. What more could you ask for. SMILE.

Don't you think that Tea and Starbucks coffee should be the next thing that we think about, I can't go on very much longer without mine. I am glad to tell you that it is ready and waiting on you, and you are welcome to come right in.

I want to look at the 3 eagles as soon as the sun comes up, I looked at them at 7 p.m on Sunday and they were all alone, and it looked like that they were waiting on their supper, they seemed nervous. It must be quite a job to keep food for these 3. How do Ma and Pa ever do it. When do they get their nap?

If you would like to go with me up to the Eagle Web Cam come on let's go. They will be glad to see us.

Sunrise at Dad's Tomato Garden . This picture was taken at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday morning. This is where I sit and listen to the birds sing, and enjoy my tomatoes. DAD.

Here below is a comment from my friend, Baldy, ( Sam). He is a faithful reader of mine, and I do appreciate all that he sends me. DAD.

"DAD, I'M SURE YOU REMEMBER TOMATO VINES BACK IN THE OLD DAYS.
MAYBE NOT THOUGH. YOU MAY NOT HAVE LIVED ON A FARM IN YOUNGSTER DAYS.
BIG GARDEN DAYS BEGAN WITH OUR FAMILY WHEN I WAS ELEVEN YEARS OLD, THE 'GREAT DEPRESSION' BEGINNING.
DAD LOST EVERYTHING BEING IN HOUSING CONSTRUCTION. MOVED TO THE COUNTRY AND WITH LARGE RICH GARDEN AREA AND MY DAD'S KNOW HOW, WE HAD WONDERFUL GARDENS AND A CORN FIELD WORKED WITH A TEAM OF HORSES AND FARM TOOLS OWNED BY A NEIGHBOR. TRADED WORK.
WE HAD A SURPLUS WHICH THERE WAS NO DEMAND FOR. PROBLEM WAS HAVING MONEY TO BUY FLOUR, SUGAR BAKING POWDER AND LARD AND OF COURSE COFFEE.
BIG PATCHES OF TOMATOES. NO FANCY NAME THEN. LITTLE YELLOW 'PEAR' TOMATOES, RED 'CHERRY' TOMATOES AND THE DELICIOUS COMMON RED ONES OF VARIOUS SIZES.
CHICKENS AND PIGS LOVED ANY TOMATOES PLACED IN THE PIG TROUGH.
I CAN STILL REMEMBER WALKING THROUGH THE TOMATO PATCH EARLY MORNING, HEAVY DEW AND THE SMELL OF THE DISTURBED BRITTLE TOMATO VINES.
SOME VINES BROKE OFF AND SEEMED TO RENDER THE PLANTS MORE PROLIFIC. LATER IN THE DAY THE HOT SUN BROUGHT THE PLANTS TO LIFE AND MOTHER CAME WITH BASKETS TO FILL FOR 'CANNING'. SHE ALREADY HAD WATER BOILING ON THE OLD WOOD BURNING KITCHEN RANGE AND WOULD 'PUT UP' DOZENS OF JARS OF THE DELICIOUS TOMATOES.
DEAR OLD MOTHER, SWEATING OVER THAT KITCHEN RANGE. SHE LOVED TO 'DO' FOR FAMILY.
NOW IN THIS PRESENT DAY, 'DAD'S TOMATO GARDEN JOURNAL' IS A GREAT HELP TO THOSE HAVING A DESIRE TO GROW FINE TOMATOES.
THANKS DAD. sam "

The link below will show you somethimg very interesting about the care of the eagles. They were brought out of the nest and bands put on there legs, and then returned to their nest.

ENTRY # SEVENTEEN HUNDRED AND EIGHTEEN

Good Morning,

Three tired people and one old man who slept all through the job.

View of Dad's Tomato Garden at the end of the day, this 85 degree tempeature should make these plants grow. You may view these plants from either Cam, # 1, or # 2 that's two different views. This is not a big garden but it shows us that we all can have a garden even if it is small. We all can't be rich. I have some readers who have only 2 or 3 plants, and I will have just as much interest in helping them as if they had 100 plants. That is my purpose to help any one that I can to produce a good home grown tomato in your own back yard. Let me hear from you.

Tennessee Granddaddy

YOU MUST READ THIS ABOVE TODAY,

.

Carlene Noggle has left a new comment on your post "ENTRY # SEVENTEEN HUNDRED AND SEVENTEEN": I got to see you watering your tomatoes Dad!!! I am so happy! I have got to get mine planted too. I only have two plants so far. They are BETTER BOYS.love ya,carlene .

I was out watering the tomatoes yesterday about 7:30 p.m. and when I came back to the office here is what Carlene had sent me. Thanks Carlene for checking on Dad.
.

Time is so precious-do not waste it.

The sun never sets on Dad's Tomato Garden Journal..
.

We will have several more videos to show you in the next few days. Some of them will show you a lot of action going on in the garden. It was hard work but I think that we all did enjoy the day.

Our day is starting off warm again this morning, at 3 a.m. the tempeature is 65 and it will be 85 again today, and plenty of sun.

We can't forget our eagles just because we are working in the tomato garden. Let's go up to their house and see how they are feeling. If they get very much bigger there is not going to be room for all the family to come home at the same time. Go to Eagle Web Cam and they will be glad to see you.

Dad's Tomato Garden Photo Album

.
This link above will show you what our tomato garden looked like last year 2008. We can look at it as we go along and compare this year with it, that should be interesting.
.

Why don't we have a good hot cup of Starbucks coffee or a cup of Tea, They are both ready, and I am ready fo my cup, maybe that will help me finish this blog. So you come right on in here and visit with me a little while, because I won't see you again untill Monday morning. I do hope to have some very interesting video's when I do see you. Dad.

Here is my thought for the week end.

" Casting all your care upon him, for he careth for you."

From 1st Peter chapter 5 verse 7.

Mary and I have just about the same plans every weekend, we enjoy our Sunday morning meeting, and this Sunday we will go to another meeting at 4 p.m. We have so many things to enjoy, and we are happy and content. Smile.

ENTRY # SEVENTEEN HUNDRED AND SEVENTEEN

GOOD MORNING,

Yes, I am smiling extra big this morning. The tomato planting day has arrived!

We will be down at the garden, planting the tomatoes beginning at 1o:00 a.m. So for any of you who would like to watch the work in progress, go to Dad's Live Web Cam #2 which is focused right on the garden area. http://72.155.123.177:81/index.cgi We are hoping that things go good today, you never know what may happen when you plan something like this. So please bear with me. Dad.

.

At least we are going to have some good weather, right now at 3 a.m. the temperature is 57, and listen to this, the high today will be 85. Now that is the kind of weather that I like. The tomatoes show grow fast in weather like that.

.

We can't forget our eagles just because we are working in the tomato garden. Let's go up yo their house and see how they are feeling. If they get very much bigger there is not going to be room for all the family to come home at the same time. Go to Eagle Web Cam and they will be glad to see you. I wish that I could send them a bucket of worms.

.

Dad's Tomato Garden Photo Album

This link above will show you what our tomato garden looked like last year.

.

Here is my thought for today.

" Wherefore , my beloved brethern, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath."

This is taken from the book of James, chapter 1 and verse 19. These words were written several years ago, but they are still good advice that old Dad want to remember.

I do need to stop because I have several things to do before 10 a.m. slips up on me, but I can't leave with out having our Tea and Coffee together, it is ready, so sit a spell and visit with me. I may see you again today. Be content and Smile today.

"An Interesting Fact . . .
At five minutes and six seconds after 4 a.m.
on the 7th of August this year, the time and date will be:
04:05:06 07/08/09
This will never happen again. "

The reason I made this little video was to show you how strong the wind was blowing here Tuesday in East Tennessee. The noise you hear is the wind.
And I am wondering about our eagles up in Virginia. They were doing real good the last time that I saw them late Tuesday afternoon. As soon as the sun comes up we want to go up there and look at them and see how they made it through the night`. Our weather is a little cooler here in The Tennessee Valley this morning, starting out at 3 a.m. the tempeature is 42, and the expected high is 65, and we are promised several days of sunshine, maybe my tomato garden spot will finally dry up enough so I can begin to do something that I love to do.
.
I think that both of my Cams are working this morning, look over in the side panel for the link to them, and other interesting things.
.
I am going to make this a little short this Wednesday morning. I hope that all of you around this world are getting off to a good start, but I don,t seem to be. I have not felt very good for several days, and I do feel the need to slow down just a little, somestimes I for get how many years that I have been in this world ( almost 96,) and that is because of God's mercy on me. I wan't to value His mercy more. I am going to stop here but I will be here in the morning if I can make it. Keep smiling today, even if the way is rough.

ENTRY # SEVENTEEN HUNDRED & FOURTEEN

Good Morning ,

Time is so precious-do not waste it.

The sun never sets on Dad's Tomato Garden Journal..

See I told you that Monday was not going to be very bad. I think that we all made it very well. And we are going to do the same with this Tuesday that has come. We started out the day with a thought that we were not going to get very much done, but when night came were we ever surprised, of course it rained a lot and we had to change our date for setting out tomatoes until Friday 4/24/09, but the surprise was that we finished our Cam that we have been telling you about. You may go there by clicking on the link that you will find over in the side panel.(It is the # 2 cam) this is where we will be setting out tomatoes on Friday morning. I hope that you will be able to be with us. I might let you help us. DAD.

The tempeature at 3 a. m. this tuesday is 48, and the weather report still talks about showers, as I have already said up above we had to chang our tomato planting to Friday, to wet for today. But the good part is that you might want to watch us, it won't be mutch to see but I thought it might be interesting. The Garden Cam is ready and you will see the link over in the panel, with a lot of other interesting things. The title to the garden cam is Dad's Outdoor Cam # 2. We are only posting the link in the side panel as it works so much better for us all. If you do have any trouble finding just tell old Dad and he will get you there.

Here is my thought for today,

" Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord."

This was some good advice given to the children of Isreal by Moses at the red see. Still good advice for us all today.

It is time for me to pack up and get out of your way. Mary and I do have a few things to do early this morning, like going to Lowe's and getting a few more supplies for Friday. I am feeling good this morning, a good sleep and I think that I am going to make it, when things go good it is a lot easier for me to smile.

That'all, I am hopeing that you will be looking for me in the morning, I will be here if all is well. SMILE today.

"Today I smiled, and all at once things didn't look so bad.Today I shared with someone else, a bit of hope I had.Today I sang a little song, and felt my heart grow light,And walked a happy little mile, with not a cloud in sight.

Today I worked with what I had and longed for nothing more, And what had seemed like only weeds, were flowers at my door.Today I loved a little more and complained a little less,And in the giving of myself, I forgot my weariness. "

I thought about titling this post “Where in the heck is Michael Nolan” until I realized that some of you probably forgot who I was it’s been so long!
Okay, I know it has been a long time since I dared show my face around here but I had good reason, and that good reason is what partially led me to my return to Tomato Casual as well.
Last week I finally relocated to the outskirts of Atlanta, Georgia into a fantastic neighborhood called Riverside.
This is very much a neighborhood on the mend (and you know how I like a hands on project), so I am happy to be here and to be surrounded by people who have even showed an interest in possibly starting our own community garden!
But I digress (and I’ll talk more about that stuff over on
Urban Garden Casual in the coming weeks anyway). What I really wanted to talk about is my new tomato plants for 2009.
As I mentioned before I just moved which means that I didn’t have time to start seedlings for the heirloom tomato varieties I really wanted to grow this year, so

We had made plans to set our tomatoes out on Tuesday, but I am not sure now, it rained all day on Sunday and I am not sure if the ground will be to wet to work in, I think that I should know by this afternoon. I hope so. DAD.

Map of USA Puzzle

"Wonder how school kids will do on this one? See how you do in placing the states of the United States Of America. All you do is look at the top of the page and drag'n'drop the state to where it belongs. Smart map, varies the order of the states' placement with each new try and, it times you! It's not easy mostly because placing a state in the precise location when it doesn't have any boundaries in place is a bit tricky! "

I am still wondering about the weather for today, the temperature is the same as it was on Sunday morning, 55 at 3 a.m. I think that the prediction may include rain showers again. I am going to try and be patient I know that it will be dry enough to work in the ground in a few days.

As I sometimes do I have neglected to ask about you, how do you feel about this Monday morning? I do hope that you had a nice weekend and that you are all refreshed and ready to go get'em. I have some tea and coffee up above if you need a little help. We are not going to worry about the future, only God knows that and we can safely trust in Him.

Mary and I did have a nice quiet weekend, we enjoyed our Sunday morning meeting and our home cooked meal afterwards. Some of our friends were not with us in our meeting and we sure did miss them, they were in Chattanooga at one of our special meetings, I know that they enjoyed that.

Now this is all for today. I hope that I can return in the morning with something that is worth looking at. Thanks for bearing with me all these years. We would like to send a smile and love to all of you all around this world. ( Check on our Visitors over in the side panel.)

If you need a little something to make you smile this early Friday morning just click on this above, It might be a good idea to have a cup of Tea or a cup of that
Starbucks Coffee in your hands before you start.

That coffee is ready and I am having a cup right now here in this little office all alone. It sure does taste good to me, I hope that you can stop in early this morning, The tea is also ready.

Yesterday was the best weather that we have had in a long time. Bright sunshine and warm. I enjoyed being outside a little. Today at 3 A. M. the tempeature is 50 and the sun is going to shine. Things are looking better for my garden cam, and we are expecting to start getting the tomato plants in the ground monday or tuesday.

I wonder how things are going this morning up in that eagles nest in Virginia. Yesterday they were having some high wind and it looked dangerious to me but when I saw them late yesterday they were still hanging in there. Let's click on the Eagle Web Cam and see what is going. Dad.

( It is 6:15 a.m. on Friday and I have been watching the eagles have their breakfast, they look so good this morning.)

Reader Question: Black Edges on Tomato Leaves?

Tags: , ,
By Vanessa Richins

Reader Lynn S. writes:

“I have tomato plants that are getting black on the tips of their leaves. I have been spraying water on the leaves, right now I have them inside but plan on planting them today in my garden.
Are these black tips from putting too much water on them? Please help, I have never had my plants do this but I have never sprayed them with water either. Thank you for your help.”
Hi. There are at least a few possibilities for why your leaf tips are turning black.
The water on the leaves definitely could be the source of the problem. When leaves stay wet for some time, it’s an opportunity for

Here is my thought for today, and I will tell you who I had in mind when I thought of this, it was old DAD.

" A soft answer turneth away wrath. But grevious words stir up anger."

" The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright. But the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness."

This thought is from Proverbs. Chapter 15, verses 1 & 2.

This is going to be all for a little while, I may be back. I hope that this is one of your good days. Walk carefully, be kind and smile today, and I think that things will turn out alright. Both of my outside Cams are out of service while we are working on the one at the garden. At least one of them will be back soon.

ENTRY # SEVENTEEN HUNDRED AND TEN

Good Morning.
.
Time is so precious-do not waste it
.
The sun never sets on Dad's Tomato Garden Journal.

.
Well how is the week going with you, so far I have been doing very good, just a few dissapoinments but we can always expect them. My garden Cam is not completly done, but I am going to get busy and see what I can do. I do want to have it ready the day that we set out the tomato plants.
.
We are having a warm morning once again, at 3 A.M. the tempeature is 48, but it again mentions showers. We have everything ready and we are waiting on a little dry weather. We hope no later than monday or tuesday of next week we will be able to get the job done.
.
It's Starbucks Coffee time here at Dad's house, and it is all ready and waiting on you, don't forget to stop in and have a little chat wiith me, I look forward to that. I also have plenty off all kinds of TEA. And I do need to see a smile.
.
I want us to do is go to the
Eagle Web Cam and let it take us right up to the nest and see how they are doing this morning, It has been very interesting the last few days to just watch them grow. Please don't miss them and also show them to your children. I did not get to see them very much yesterday, I was very busy all day. I do hope to find them well when the sun comes up. .

Interesting reading. Dad.
.
Here is my thought for today.
.
" There is nothing more beautiful than A rainbow, but it takes both rain and sunshine to make a rainbow. If life is to be rounded and many- colored like the rainbow, both Joy and sorrow must come to it. Those who have not known anything but prosperity and pleasure become hard and shallow, but those whose prosperity has been mixed with adversity become kind and gracious."
.
This is from Apples of Gold.
.
It is time again for me to get out of here again. Let's be good today, think good thouhts and do good deeds. And be kind and give every one a big smile. Thanks to you for putting up with me. There are a lot more better things that you could read than this. I hope to see you in the morning if God has mercy and spares me to see another day.
