ENTRY # SEVENTEEN HUNDRED & FIFTY ONE.

Good Morning.
.
.
I am hoping that all is well with you this morning, this is Wednesday and that means that another weekend is drawing near. We can always use weekends.Tuesday was another nice day at 6:30 yesterday afternoon the temperature was 88 and not a cloud in sight. This Wednesday morning we have a 66 and another high expected to be near 90. A few showers are mentioned.

..
I was in the tomato garden at 7 a.m. yesterday morning giving the plants a little water it has not rained in several days and I thought that a little drink might make them feel better. I have changed my watering schedule for this season. I do all of my watering in the early morning so that the sun will dry any water that might be on the vines, I feel that help keep some of the blight away that some of us have to put up with. So far this year I can see a big difference.
. .

.
I want to mention the eaglets right here. This Eagle Web Cam will let you see them, but don't wait too long. The link below will tell you a little of what for us to expect. I for one do want to say Thanks to every one that had any thing to do with letting us see the eagles. DAD.
.
http://www.dgif.virginia.gov/eaglecam/
.
The link above will give you some more interesting information about the eaglets and the Cam. Notice the spot on the screen, find out what that is. DAD.
.
I received this below from Helen, it will almost make you cry. DAD
.
"I rescued a human today. Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her. I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn't be afraid. As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn't want her to know that I hadn't been walked today. Sometimes the shelter keepers get too busy and I didn't want her to think poorly of them. As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn't feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in some one's life. She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well. Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms. I would promise to keep her safe. I would promise to always be by her side. I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes. I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven't walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one." .
.
I received this in an email and thought it was good..Thanks Helen. Here is a Kleenex. Dad.
.
We have been searching for a good spot light for our flag light. I think that we have finally found what we want. We got one of them installed yesterday. There is one more to install and we will do that soon. Look at it tonight after dark and see if looks any better. That is on Cam # 1. I love to look at my screen about midnight and be able to see the flag waving in the wind. DAD.
.
Here is my thought for this day. Taken from Philippians chapter 4 and verse 13. This chapter is our bible study for tonight.
.
" I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."

Spoken by Paul, what a wonderful thing to be able to say.

There are two questions that I need to answer here that came in a few days ago. I have misplaced the email address for both questions, One was do you use mulch ? The answer is yes I do and I believe in use lots of it.

..

And the other question is what is all that black stuff all around your tomatoe plants. The answer to this is Mulch.

. Thank you both for your questions. I will try to be more careful with your addresses in the future. Dad.

Reader Question: Black Edges on Tomato Leaves?

.
Tags: , ,

.
By Vanessa Richins

.
Reader Lynn S. writes:

.
“I have tomato plants that are getting black on the tips of their leaves. I have been spraying water on the leaves, right now I have them inside but plan on planting them today in my garden.
Are these black tips from putting too much water on them? Please help, I have never had my plants do this but I have never sprayed them with water either. Thank you for your help.”

...

Hi. There are at least a few possibilities for why your leaf tips are turning black.
The water on the leaves definitely could be the source of the problem. When leaves stay wet for some time, it’s an opportunity for fungal diseases to develop. It wouldn’t be quite as much as a problem if they had been outside, since the sun would dry the moisture. Since they are inside, though, the water is likely to sit on the leaf surface longer.
Water at the base, not on the leaves. In addition, try to water in the morning so there is more time for the moisture to dry if some leaves do happen to get wet.
It could also be a bacterial problem. For example, bacterial canker will turn the edges of leaves brown.
Have you been fertilizing your tomatoes? Since they are in pots, it’s very possible that too much fertilizer salts can accumulate and burn the leaves, especially if the leaves are being watered more than the soil.
Do you have many plants that are very close together? If there is not enough room for air to flow through, that could also encourage diseases.
If possible, you could send in a picture of your tomatoes so we can better see what is going on. You could also take it in to your local extension office to see if they know of problems specific to your area.

.
Good luck with figuring out what is happening!

.
I am always glad to see the light of another day. I some times think of the words of a hymn that says " New each morning are His mercies, and his faithfulness so great." We all should be so thankful for that.
.
Our weather here is still warm and wet. Wednesday afternoon we had a thunderstorm and almost 1/2 inch of rain fell in just a few minuets. We are begining this day with a tempeature of 61 and guess what, more thunder storms in the afternoon. This does not worry me as I have my tomato garden in good shape, I am just waiting for a tomato sandwich.
.
I think thar I smell coffee, come on and we will try it out. And I am sure that the tea is ready. These little coffee and tea times are so nice. Why don't more of you stop in ?
