Good Morning.
Here I sit at 6 A.M. late agaim but I am relaxed. I see no need of rushing around any today, I feel that I still need to be careful. Joan has asked me for a picture of my tomatoes on this blog, I don't have much to offer but in a few days I will give one. My golf cart is not repaired yet yesterday being a holliday the shop did not work. When they open this morning I will be on the phone. And when I get my cart back I can use the camera, mulch the tomatoes, prune and spray the tomatoes,and feed the birds right from my cart. Now don't you think that I do not have very much complain about. So I am going to try to be happy today and smile every time that I have a chance.

"Fruiting crops, including tomatoes, need full sun most of the day for good production of quality fruit. Good drainage is also important. In high to medium rainfall areas (more than 30 inches per year) work the soil into ridges and plant on the ridge or build raised beds 12 to 18 inches deep. Plan on setting out at least one cherry tomato and 4 to 6 large-fruited varieties depending on the number of fresh tomato lovers in your family. You'll need stakes or wire tomato cages to support the plants to keep the fruit off the ground where it would rot. To insure even and efficient watering, you will want to put in a drip or soaker hose system for watering. Finally, count on mulch to keep down the weeds."

DAD'S FRIDAY ENTRY TWO THOUSAND THREE HUNDRED SIX

Good Morning,

It is 7:06 AM and you may be wondering why there isn't a completed Blog already.

This is Mary writing here: I insisted Dad go to the dr. yesterday because his left foot and leg are so swollen. Really, it is almost twice the size of his other leg, both the foot and about half-way up the leg. The dr. didn't seem too concerned (but it's not his leg!)and he wrote Dad a prescription for an antibiotic which he is taking. He sees the foot dr. next week and the dr. said to have him "look at it." I want Dad to see another dr. and get a "second opinion." I am trying to work that out now. So please think of us.

I'll be back here later. Dad is resting, sleeping soundly so I am glad he can rest. We have his feet propped up, but I really don't think it will help this.

So long for now. I plan to be back later today to let you know how Dad is doing. He loves all of you very much.

I keep my golf cart at the foot of the stairs to the basement, it is very handy, a few minutes ago I drove to the mail box for the Mail and our paper. Mary is taking perfect care of me, even brings my food to my bed side, come on I am going to take another nap.

IMPORTANT

There is something I want to clarify today. One day recently I posted a little poem in my Blog that began with the word, Son. It must have SOUNDED like I was referring to my own son, Jim, but I definitely was not. It was just how the poem started out and I didn't think anything about it at the time. But I can see now how it could have sounded that way. I'm sure that all of you know how dear my son, Jim and daughter-in-law, Beverly are to me. There could not be a better son and daughter-in-law in the whole wide world. They have done so much for me all through the years and I love them and they love me. I just wanted to clarify this!

I hope to hear you say fine when I ask how you are feeling. this new day. We all have the clean sheet that God gives to each of us each morning, and I am wondering now what will my sheet look like at the end of the day, I need to be careful as I will never have this day again. I feel that my life is passing so quickly. DAD.

My work plans for this Tuesday is a little more than yesterday. I finally found some good mulch and if the rain holds off we plan to get some of that around those few tomatoes that we have, if you will look at Camera # 2 you can see the mulch in the back.

This is one day that the most of us like, for me it is no more writing until Monday morning, just a couple days or relaxing and the great opportunity of being in two meetings on Sunday.

Mary and I did go to Granger County to look at a few tomato farms, and we found one that we like very much. It is not the one that we visited last year, we sure do like this one better.

I don't think that Mr. Steve Longmire would get after me if I told you just a little about what we saw and enjoyed so much. He has every thing that you could wish for in a tomato farm, along with a lot of kindness from him and the lady that helped us. The name of his farm is Tennessee Home Grown Tomatoes, and it is located at 220 Chahokla Dr , Rutledge Tn 37861.

And we did not come away empty handed, we were looking for a few green tomatoes and he had plenty, also a box of red ripe tomatoes. Now guess what I am going to have on my table on Sunday.

If any of you are ever in this part of the world, do go by and see Steve, when you are on your vacation in the Smokies would be a good time. DAD

DAD"S FRIDAY'S ENTRY THREE THOUSAND

Good Friday morning.

I am getting just a little later every morning to sit down to this keyboard. There is nothing wrong at all, I am feeling real good, even smiling as I drink this good x bold coffee. But I just think that it is good for me to do this. I have felt so much better since I started some of the changes that I have made.

I do appreciate all the patience that all of you have had with me, and all the good things that you have sent me me that I have been able to use in this journal, such as pictures, poetry and lots of other things. Without you I might not even be here today,

And at this later hour it is much easier to use this computer, it works so much better than it did when I was starting at around 2 in the morning.,

I do not think that the tomatoes have an reason to complain after looking at that weather report above. I know that I am going to be late this year but as you all know it was not my fault, but the hail that fell on my garden and wiped it all out.

Now we need to talk about money, it is something that we all must have a little off to survive in this short life. About the only thing that comes to us without effort is old age.

Old age is when you are able to sleep late, you are so old that you wake up early.

Old age is when candlelit tables are no longer romantic you are so old you can not see to read the menu.

We do not have very much planned for today, Mary is going to have lunch with some of her girl friends from South High School where they were in school together. They have stayed very close together since school days, and I think that is so nice that they love one another and want to be friends . DAD

When Mary gets home we plan to visit Grainger county, a county famous their early tomatoes, they are just a few miles east of us, I know several of these growers and I am going to try and bring a few green tomatoes home with me

Good Morning

I hope that all is well with you wherever you are in this world. I am doing very well and hope to do better after I have had my cup of x bold, it just seems to take that every morning to get me started.

Our weather here is a little strange, very cool and plenty of rain, I wonder if that is going to slow up the tomatoes, I hope not I am hungry for that famous tomato sandwich, made only with a home grown tomato.

DAD'S WEDNESDAY'S ENTRY TWO THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED NINETY EIGHT

Good Morning to all of you on another rain falling morning, it has been very wet here for several days, we have not been able to get near the tomato garden, they do seem to be growing, we might have a few tomatoes after all our hail setback.

It's cold her is starting off at 48 degrees and expects to rise to only 65, with rain in the morning hours. Then maybe a little sun. This looks like another stay inside day, Prince will be happy.

We have all of our red Double Knock Out Roses in their place in the front and side yard, I like these roses very much they bloom all summer and do not require very much attention, we have 4 of them now and that is enough

I don't have very much planed for this day, to tell you the truth we have about run out of any thing to do, just keeping up the WildLife Habitat is about all that has to be done. We have had so many birds to visit us this year, so many that we can hardly keep water and food for them, some we don't what they are, can't even find them in our bird book.
